The result is a masterwork in Ambient\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIndustrial Noise.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWinds howl, rain soaked leaves are walked on, broken branches\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003ereverberate to the abyss, and voices of unknown origin lurk in the\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003ebackground. In a sense, much of the album's noisier moments play like\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003ean answer to the soundtrack to the Jean Rollin filmed dream sequences\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eof Jess Franco's \"A Virgin Among the Living Dead\". Given the album's\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003enamesake, one can't help to think Giuliani had Euro-horror cinema on\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003ehis mind while channeling these soundscapes.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eUnlike the suffocating characteristics of the Exile album, Giuliani\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003euses The Beyond to experiment with silence and space. Throughout\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\"Before Silence\" the listener is faced with seeming\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003einactivity\u003cbr\u003equietly under a thick layer of fog and tape hiss. While \"Under\" will\u003cbr\u003eundergo prolonged moments of near silence in its conclusion. It's\u003cbr\u003eonly in the piercing horror feedback of the finale \"My Eyes Still\u003cbr\u003eSee\" which brings the listener back from the lull in what is the most\u003cbr\u003edisconcerting of all Drift compositions.
